New to the Region: Welcome!

Some people who visit the Great Smoky Mountains are so impressed that they decide to move to the region. They want to admire the beauty of the Smoky Mountains every day instead of just once a year on vacation. Take a look at some helpful tips we’ve put together for people who want to make the Great Smoky Mountain region their home.

Places to Live

There are several appealing choices for people who want to move to the Smoky Mountain region. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Townsend are some options to consider. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are both popular vacation destinations for tourists, but they have a small number of residents. Gatlinburg has about 4,000 residents and Pigeon Forge has approximately 6,000 residents. In comparison, Sevierville is a much larger city with a population of around 16,000 residents. Townsend, Tennessee, is a very small town with a population of just 755 people.

How to Find a Rental

One way to find a rental home or an apartment is to enlist the help of a real estate agent who works in the city you want to live in. They’ll know a lot about the city and what is available as far as housing for new residents. Another option is to conduct some research online. It’s best to be as specific as possible when entering housing information into a search engine. Driving around the streets of a city to look for available homes and apartments for rent is also an option when searching for a place. Hopefully, you’ll be able to talk with an apartment manager or contact the owner of a home that’s for rent in order to ask questions.

Becoming Active in the Community

Many people who move to the Smoky Mountain region want to join in with community activities. One way to connect with other members of the community is to visit the local community center to learn about organizations, events, and groups. Once a new resident becomes involved with one group, it often leads to other opportunities after meeting some fellow citizens. The local library can be another resource for new residents in search of ways to become involved in community activities. In addition, visiting a city’s website can be an effective way of learning about activities and events that are going on.
